My dad said his favorite car at Cars & Coffee on Saturday was a pristine E28 BMW 533i, and he’s always liked the idea of a classic car in the garage for weekends and such but has never actually gotten one. An early 5-series specifically the E28, would definitely be a nice weekend car for him once I move out. I hit up the local List of Craig to see how much they go for and found this:

It’s not an E28, but rather an earlier E12 528i with a stick shift. The color is fantastic, it looks to be in good shape, and it’s only $2700. However, I’m not exactly an expert on old BMWs, so I don’t know what’s a fair price and what isn’t. What say you, Oppo? Nice Price or Crack Pipe?

Offer $2,200

Looks like a pretty solid car and the owner knows what he’s talking about judging from the ad. The rust is the only thing that would be concerning.

He’s not actually buying it, but I did think if he hypothetically did he could offer around that and negotiate to get a few hundred off.

I does seem like most sellers of these cars know what they're talking about.

I saw that car too, and was intrigued! Somewhat turned off because I couldn’t find much of a forum presence on the E12 at all, and I was wondering how obtainable parts would be, and thusly how often I’d be calling my local Euro mechanic.

The E28 has more of a cult following I think. It appears to be in good shape, so as long as you maintain it properly, it'll probably stay in good condition.

Nice price all the way. I would probably DD it and take the long way to school every day :) And if the rust got too bad it would be winter fun car time!
